We are a friendly, inclusive group of people of different ages and interests in the environment.

Most of us live in Royal Wootton Bassett and the surrounding areas. Members include long-time environmental campaigners as well as those who are just starting to want to find out more, and everyone in between. Whether you are enthusiastic about sustainable food or into recycling and zero waste, looking after our local wildlife and land, or reducing carbon emissions, you’ll find someone here to share your interests. We meet regularly to share information and ideas about living more sustainably – both as individuals and as a town. Everyone is welcome!

Our aims

As a group we want to help and support our town to;

  •     Reduce emissions to net carbon zero by 2030

  •     Protect our green spaces and wildlife

  •     Use more sustainable resources, services and products and support our local businesses

We engage with our town and county councils, MP, schools, local businesses and other organisations to raise environmental awareness and discuss what we can do in our town. We've put on a range of events from film screenings, political debates, exhibitions, tree-planting, an Eco-Fest, clothes swaps and more. Based on our joint passions, we’ve formed project groups to work towards our aims.

Our Active Travel project group is working to reduce carbon emissions by campaigning for a network of safe cycle paths throughout our town and for the long awaited cycle path into Swindon.

Our Rewilding group is working to increase our town’s biodiversity through tree-planting initiatives and campaigning to let our road verges, parks and gardens bloom with wildflowers and more.

Our Sustainable RWB group is working to help our town reduce plastic, waste and emissions, promote recycling and reuse, and champion our local, independent businesses.

Our Nature Reserve group is managing the RWB Community Nature Reserve (next to the Jacqui Woolford Memorial Park), and enhancing the existing habitats there with practical conservation projects.

We are making some great progress with our projects but our environment needs more help. Please join us!

In particular, we need people who are willing to actively support our projects. This can be on the ground practical support like tree planting; helping with our campaigns or organising events, responding to planning applications to protect our green spaces and create more cycle paths; fundraising; supporting us on social media and creating posters and written content and many other tasks. Or maybe you have a great idea and are willing to help make it happen. Whatever your
skillset and availability, you can help us build a better future for us all here in Royal Wootton Bassett.

Take a look at our project pages above for more information and to find out how to get involved or check out our Facebook page for updates.

About us

The RWB Environment Group started in 2019 and rapidly grew our membership through events, projects and regular meetings. In 2022, we united with the RWB Community Garden & Nature Reserve to become the RWB Environment Trust and a registered charity.
